The Turku publishing firm Sammakko has begun a new project called Burning Bridge. This is being run in collaboration with several other publishers and writers' organizations in south-west Finland, including Savukeidas, Turbator, Lounais-Suomen Kirjailijat ry and Kirjan talo ry, and is receiving funding from FILI (the Finnish Literature Centre). The aim of the project is to further the promotion of new Finnish writing abroad, and the Burning Bridge website will present translated English-language excerpts from newly published Finnish titles. Books in the first series will include Riku Korhonen's recent novels Lääkäriromaani (2008) and Hyvästi tytöt (2009), as well as Kreetta Onkeli's Kotirouva (2007). Lieto-based author Roope Lipasti is the project's chairman and co-ordinator.
