Baron Bonde

The Scotsman has an obituary of John, Baron Bonde -
the Fife laird whose ancestry romantically included both the builders of Rosslyn Chapel and a Swedish monarch.

Thanks for this Harry. Some people's biographies or walks through life can be very strange and convoluted. Eton, Uppsala, sorting out Poles, Esso, plus Charleton sounds like a fulfilled life. In Fife. Though he was a laird, not a thane.

Yes, who wants to be a thane, anyway? I'm relieved to report that my own people hail not from Fife but from Scotland's north east, where the "other" branch of a certain family has traditionally been resident. ;-)
